Only Palak knows the password, Facebook-YouTube of the ICT department is closed
Communication Technology (ICT) department's Facebook page and YouTube channel have been closed since August 5. Only former ICT state minister Junaid Ahmed Palak knows the password of this page and channel.
After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5, former ministers, members of parliament and party leaders went into hiding. Some have already been arrested. Former state minister Palak was detained at the airport while leaving the country on August 6. Then on August 14, he was arrested in the murder case.
Facebook page and YouTube channel of ICT Department closed since August 5. If asked about the matter, the secretary of the ICT department said. Samsul Arefin told Prothom Alo that these were run by the former state minister personally. He didn't give the password. But they are trying to recover. The Facebook page and YouTube channel of the ICT department has been very active in the last 10 years. Regular posts were given about various information and programs related to the department. Where did Palak go, what meeting he held, what speech he gave - these information, pictures and videos were given regularly. But after the fall of the government, Facebook page and YouTube channel cannot be found. Their official social media links are provided on the website of the ICT department. But clicking there doesn't give anything.
Among the ministers and state ministers of the former Awami League government, Junaid Ahmed, the former minister of state for posts, telecommunications and information technology, was the most active and followed in terms of followers on social media. He also had a verified page in his own name on Facebook. That too is closed now.
Sources in the ICT department said Junaid Ahmed was in control of their official Facebook page and YouTube channel. A streaming platform called Dhaka Live and a digital marketing team managed the ICT department and social media.Dhaka Live is also not found anymore. Their website and Facebook page are closed. Their head office in the capital's Caravan Bazaar was found locked last Sunday.
The concerned persons say that the Facebook page and YouTube channel of the ICT department is not the property of any person, it is the property of the government. Its control and management should be in accordance with government regulations. It is not acceptable to change a person to lose pages and channels.
Nahid Islam, the advisor of the interim government in charge of the ICT department, told Prothom Alo that the ministry did not have control over the ICT department's social media. The former state minister used to manage it personally. He closed the pages as he left. Initiatives have been taken from the ministry for re-opening.
Nahid also said, 'As far as I know, the page has been taken under control. Activities will be started from the page soon.'
